Email Account Set up

Welcome to the PA-Design guide on how to set up an email account.

Basic Set Up Steps Overview

Step 1

Identify what device/s you would like to use your emails on. This can be things like your desktop PC, laptop, tablet, smart phone.

Step 2

Once you know what device/s you are setting your email account up on, decide what email client you are going to use.

An email client is an application that enables configuring one or more email addresses to receive, read, compose and send emails from. For example Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird etc.

We normally recommend using the native email client that comes preinstalled on your device.

Step 3

Go into the settings of the email client to add your new email account. This varies from different devices and email clients.

If you are setting up on a phone you will most likely need to add your new email account in the phone settings. For an example see the Setting Up on iPhone video below.

Step 4

Use the credentials that PA Design have provided you with for your new email address’s user name and password. Your email address is your user name.

Step 5

It is important to decide what server type you will need for your new email account.

The two types are IMAP & POP3

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) – By using an IMAP server type your incoming emails will no longer be directly downloaded to your end device. So this tends to be better for phones and tablets or if you are using your email account on lots of devices.

POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) – POP3 allows you to download email messages on your local computer and read them even when you are offline. POP3 works better if you are only using one device, but have a very large number of emails.

Step 6

Incoming Server settings should be mail.yourdomainname.co.uk. For example, PA Design’s Incoming Server is mail.pa-design.co.uk.

The Port number for a POP3 Incoming Server is 995. The Port number for an IMAP Incoming Server is 993.

Make sure that SSL is turned on.

The User Name and Password is the same as above in Step 4

Step 7

Outgoing Server setting is almost the same as Incoming Server. The settings should be mail.yourdomainname.co.uk. For example, PA Design’s Outgoing Server is mail.pa-design.co.uk.

The Port number for the Outgoing Server is 465

Make sure that the SSL is turned on.

The User Name and Password is the same as above in Step 4

Step 8

Once you have completed all these steps you should be able to use your new email account.
